Publishing With FrontPage on Business Servers

If you have a Business Server (virtual server without FrontPage extensions) and still want to use FrontPage to create your site, you can. Please note that the webbots and many FrontPage components will not work. You might want to switch to a FrontPage Server Account.

If you need to upload with FrontPage to a Business Server, you must use the Web Publishing Wizard. Please follow these procedures carefully.

NOTE: Where it says Domain_Name, type your domain name, e.g. domain.com

Where it says USERID, that is your UserID, e.g. webxxxxx


You must have the Web Publishing Wizard installed.

Select "Publish FrontPage Web" from the File menu.

A box will appear. Fill in these fields:

Destination Web Server or File Location: Domain_Name

Connect Using SSL: unchecked

Name of Destination FrontPage Web: Leave blank


Now click "OK."

It will fiddle around for a while and then the Web Publishing Wizard will appear.

Click "next."

Choose the files or folders to upload. Click "Next."

"Select the name of a Web server from the list. To add a Web Server to the list, click New."

Click New, and type:

Domain_Name

in the first field. For the second field, leave it as or select yours if it is in the list.

Click Next. The "URL or Internet Address" should say:

http://Domain_Name

Click "Next."

Now, click "Use Dialup Networking to access the Internet." Choose your Dialup Networking connection, and click "Next."

Click Next again.

It will attempt to upload your files. It will fail. A window will appear stating the failure. Click "OK."

Now, click "FTP - File Transfer Protocol". Click Next.

For User Name, put: USERID

For Password, type your password.

Click Next.

For "FTP Server Name", put: Domain_Name

Click Next.

For "Subfolder containing your Web pages on your FTP server:" you must put:

/drv1/web/sites/USERID

For "URL for your home root on your Web server:"

put: http://Domain_Name/

NOTE: You MUST put the slash on the end!

Now click Next, and it should check your information. This time it should work.

Click "Finish" to upload your files.
